About African Methodist Episcopal Churches

Tradition

Methodism was founded by John Wesley in the 18th century, emphasizing personal holiness, social justice, and the free grace of God available to all. It is part of the broader Wesleyan tradition.

What to Expect in Worship

Services include hymns (both traditional and modern), scripture readings, a sermon, and communal prayers. Communion is offered regularly, and the liturgy balances structure with warmth.

Church Governance

Methodist churches use a connectional system where local churches are organized into districts and conferences. Pastors are appointed by bishops, and laity play active governance roles.
